start early
Be a child for a day! What do you see, feel, want?
Watch a green onion with water and sun grow into a huge stalk!
Is it possible to start too early to cultivate good character? Everyone knows this is not true, but the question becomes is it always possible to start early to help children learn the basics of being healthy children. Therein lies the problem: the early environment. Some children slip up when it comes to learning how to grasp an understanding of who they are and of understanding and knowing their surroundings, including the people in it.
In puppy litters, there are defined characteristics based on the order of birth: the first born is the more aggressive while the last one has to work very hard for every single sip of milk it can get. Some hawk-like birds whose fast flying skills need to be perfect, throw weak babies out of the nest to ensure that one or two will be super strong.
Children learn about the world through their own eyes and deal with it accordingly. When there is a single child, all the pressures are put on that very one, making life both great and difficult at the same time.
In the history of humankind, parents have had all kinds of pressures placed in them, from starvation, to war, to the elements of weather. Today, parents in our continent face problems, as great as they are, very different from the past. In one word, their lives could be described as “hectic.”
What is most important is for all parents to know that it matters so much to their children to know they are wanted, they are loved, no matter how busy you are. So, if at all possible, express your love for your child, to each and every one of them. Even if it means that, although right at that moment, you don’t have time to tell them a story, tell them that, tell them you want to tell them a story, but things are too hectic for you right now. That you are trying to find more time to tell stories and to be with them, that it is very important for you to be with them, that you love them and want them to know that. Your sincerity will come across.
The Center for Social Isolation Relief encourages everyone to be helpful, kind and loving to all children, not just your own. All children look at all adults to try to understand what the world and people in it are like.
